This biased processing leads to the formation of negative self-beliefs and expectations, which in turn perpetuate the emotional disorder. The model also emphasizes the role of metacognitive beliefs, or beliefs about one's own thoughts and thinking processes, in maintaining emotional distress. Overall, the cognitive model provides a comprehensive understanding of the cognitive processes underlying emotional disorders and serves as a basis for cognitive-behavioral therapy interventions. **
